The founding of Hedworth Lodge

The journey of Harton Masonic Hall began with the consecration of Hedworth Lodge. This significant event took place on Thursday, 17th December 1891, during a meeting of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Durham, held at the Masonic Hall in Ingham Street, South Shields. This marked the official start of our long-standing tradition in the community.

Establishing Hedworth Hall

In 1924, Hedworth Lodge sought a new home, leading to the ambitious project of erecting a new Temple in Westoe, which became known as Hedworth Hall. The foundation stone was ceremoniously laid on 19th November 1924, and the Hall proudly opened its doors on 29th April 1926. This period marked a significant expansion and a new chapter for the Lodge.

Our new home at Harton Masonic Hall

November 2023 saw another pivotal moment in our history when the Hedworth Lodge Trustees acquired the former Harton Methodist Church on Sunderland Road. This beautiful building became our new home, and we proudly held our inaugural Masonic Meeting there in August of the following year, continuing our legacy in a new, vibrant location.
